Director Rob Reiner used the Hamptons International Film Festival, where his movie “LBJ” screened on Sunday, to praise Woody Harrelson’s star turn in the film out Nov. 3. And to slam sexual predators — two of them.
“Harvey Weinstein is bad. He did a really bad thing,” said Reiner, when an interview with BuzzFeed film critic Alison Willmore turned to current events about the movie mogul. “There’s no defending that. It’s horrible.”
But Reiner, 70, famous for helming “This Is Spinal Tap,” “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally …” and for playing Meathead on “All in the Family,” added that the movie mogul isn’t alone.
Reiner, an activist who frequently disses Donald Trump at @robreiner, pointed out during the interview that 45 is “also an abuser.” Reiner wondered why politicians have vowed to return donations from Weinstein but not from Trump, explained a critic who attended the interview and shot the video
The President, who said that he wasn’t surprised about Weinstein’s seedy behavior, has himself boasted about sexually assaulting women and grabbing their genitals.
“Yes, Harvey Weinstein’s a bad guy,” said Reiner, “but it’s not equal to the President of the United States.”
